Founded in 2007, Billy Needs A Beard emerged from a group of friends and music-lovers in central Florida who simply wanted to get together, play, and share their passion for making good-time music. From the earliest jams to full-scale gigs, their focus has always been on enjoying the moment, connecting with audiences, and keeping the vibe real.

Over the years they have established a presence in the central Florida live-music scene, performing at a wide variety of local venues and festivals, bringing their sound to loyal fans across the region. While the exact membership has evolved through the years, the spirit of the band — the camaraderie, the live energy, the love of songwriting and stage time — has remained consistent.

On the recording side, the band’s self-titled debut album, Billy Needs A Beard, was released in 2007. Their follow-up, Slightly West of Center, came out in 2011 and showcases the group’s growth, both in songwriting and in studio production. 

According to local coverage, by fall 2010 the band had “carved a niche in Polk County” and pointed to influences such as Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash and The Band as part of their inspiration.
